Changes in V. 0.3.2 release of December 29, 2006:
- CSS file loading mechanisms got substantially
overhauled to avoid endless loops due to
redirected files. This makes also downloading a
bit faster, as a nice side effect (#0219).
- CSS width attribute added for formular elements
text, file and password.
- New feature implemented: holding SHIFT+ALT
while clicking a link opens a new window and set
it to the bottom.
- New feature implemented: SHIFT+TAB now navigates
backwards in a FORM.

AV_WINDOW = 2: also enables global window
cycling.

- Several bugs with bad pointers from the 0.2.7
release fixed, some no longer used code removed.
- The download manager handles 'chunked mode' data

- Unterminated attribute strings in tags now
attempted to be parsed.

Changes in V. 0.2.6 release of November 08, 2005:
- Download manager implemented for the "Save
Target As" popup item. Can handle up to four
connections at a time.
- Support added for HTTP Authentication (RFC2069
Basic only, no RFC2617 Digest/MD5 yet).
- The URL input field got an own history for the
ten last URLs typed in by the user. These
entries are stored and stay persistent between
program quit and the next start. Also there are
some improvements to remove control characters
due to due to copy&paste actions (by G.Stoll).
- Table attributes COLSPAN=0 and ROWSPAN=0
implemented (#0112). Some improvements for
table rendering (width calculation).
- Memory leak closed in the Table destructor.
- Bugfix for memory from the program's data
segment get freed in true color (reported by
Zorro).
- Loading strategy changed to reduce the
probability of connection timeouts. Also some
pages with lots of images are loaded a bit
faster now.
- The HELP key opens the correct document now
rather then the outdated file.
- Correction to have X11 bitmap and pixmap images
stored in the cache with the right extension;
Added truncated *.jpe to recognized extensions.
- Improved code to filter out javascript parts
from HTML (#0201), also improved code for
handling HTML comments.

Changes in V. 0.2.5 release of March 15, 2005:
- Dir listing corrected for displaying file/dir
names containing blanks (#0085).
- Handling of <SCRIPT> and <STYLE> tags improved
to avoid displaying of code fragments under some
circumstances.
- Link handling overworked and improved. Works
much better now for local anchors with blanks
and/or umlauts (#0127).
- Several changes in Table handling where made
for better layout.
- CSS size values enabled for tables.
- Attribute NOWRAP brought back working.
- Bug fixed which was causing an infinite loop
when a link contained a dot file (name with a

Changes in V. 0.2.4 release of December 25, 2004:
- When a config file was created because none was
found at program start the user gets a
notification now. Furthermore, the path of the
loaded file is displayed on the page reachable
with the "about:" pseudo-URL now.
- New config keyword START_PAGE to define what
should be displayed after program start.
NOTE: This option will be ignored at the very
first start of a new installed version.
- When the option 'Cookies allowed' in the menu
get changed this will be stored in the config
file.
- The menu bar got changed: 'Suppress Images' was
removed (still useable from config file) and
instead 'View Images' and 'Use CSS' were added.
Both of the latter are stored in the cfg file.
- Functionality added to handle GEM dialogs inside
of windows.
Currently only the dialog from SHFT-CTRL-O uses
this.
- High/TrueColor (24/32bit) screen modes for Hades
graphic card drivers added. Now images will
appear with correct colours (#0101).
- Initialization order of AES and VDI exchanged at
program start to avoid problems with some AESs.
- Fixed a bug that was causing endless reload try
loops due to empty or not found CSS files.
- Fixed loading of very short files which got lost
due to wrong handling.
- Added an extra check for images that were tryed
to load from a HTTPS source, this could cause
crashes in the past.
- Old bug fixed: avoid reloading pages from remote
when the base font size got changed, use files
from cache instead.
- Improved palette parsing for XPMs, to get more
types of such images decoded.

Changes in V. 0.2.3 release of November 21, 2004:
- Support for image link maps implemented (MAP/
AREA/USEMAP that is) for all three area types
rectangle, circle and polygone (#0078/#0128).
This includes also support for <A HREF> tags
used rather then <AREA>, as defined by HTML 4.0
(not even supported by IE5/Netscape/CAB).
- Support added for <INPUT type=image> form
elements (#0173).
- Scroller buttons implemented for popup menus
which doen't fit to the desktop height. Not
that fancy done yet but at least it useable so
far (#0147/#0175).
- Bugfix for text input field width setting. They
were always set to a minimum width of 20 chars
even if a smaller width was defined in the tag.
- Image formats XBM and XPM (X11 bitmap/pixmap)
implemented. These formats are very rare
nowadays but still used by some stone old server
(eg. the NCSA one) and all other browsers
support at least the first format (even CAB
does).
- Support added for web access via a proxy server.
This can be controlled by using the keyword
HTTP_PROXY = <proxy-ip> <port>
in the highwire.cfg file.

Changes in V. 0.2.2 release of October 31, 2004:
- Large portions of the cache handling code
reworked. This gets rid of several wrong
warnings about not found files (mostly due to
login pages for forums).
- Image width/height are saved in the disk cache
now, this reduces reformat flickering on
re-visited pages to the nearly absolute minimum
(#0133).
- The window handling code also got a large rework
to have non-modal dialog windows in the future.
As a little gimmick the F10 key does the same now
as the F11 does in Mozilla/IE.
- An ugly hack was added to get yahoo's buggy
standard login working (the non-ssl version).
- CTRL-V can be used now to paste text from the
clipboard into formular input fields.
- Named character recognition added for
apostroph.
- More types of corrupted jpeg image data are
catched now, instead of aborting.
- Improved detection of system type (AES + kernel),
now XaAES is recognized also. This also allows
to get rid of the window fuller bug with XaAES
(#0150, #0167).
- Some error messages are displayed by alert boxes
now instead of console output or simple writing
to the screen
- Workaround added for weird <base href=...>
constructs, where the complete document path is
used as the base (wrong usage that is, but also
used by the W3C staff!).
- Additional filtering method to detect images
that has a particulare directory name in their
URL. This method is used if the search pattern
starts with a '/'. Eg.
RESTRICT_HOST I /ads/
matches all images that has '/ads/' somewhere
in their path.
- Bugs #0133, #0148, #0150, #0167, #0169, #0170,
#0176, #0177 resolved.

Changes in V. 0.2.1 release of August 22, 2004:
- Cookie support implemented. Non-session cookies
are stored to disk to allow persistent user
preferences for sites.
- New config keyword RESTRICT_HOST added for
blocking images and/or cookies from certain
domains or hosts.
(see example.cfg\highwire.cfg for details).
- New Sting.OVL.
- Http request-header field 'Referer:'
implemented.
- Corrected calculation of UTC date/time values as
needed for cache expiration.
- The cache.idx file header structure got changed
to allow version checking for possibly changed
cache structure. In this case the cache will be
emptied to avoid messed up data.
Some bugfixes to avoid orphaned cache files.
- Bugfix for anchors inside of tables which got
lost when more than one was defined.
- Added handling for wrong opend/closed formulars
regarding table structures.

Changes in V. 0.2.0 release of June 10, 2004:
- Save As... and Copy URL added to normal right
mouse click popup.
- Popup added for right mouse click to links to
allow storing of downloaded file to a local
directory ('Save As').
- <TEXTAREA> tag implemented. The length of the
typed in text is restricted only by the ram.
- Keyboard input implemented for form tags of the
type <INPUT type=text ..>. Jumping to other
text fields of a formular can be done by the
TAB key, inclusive automatical page scrolling to
the reached field. Leaving the edit mode can
be done with CTRL+TAB.
- Table column width calculation changed, was
causing crashes sometimes.
- Speed up CSS parsing by avoiding useless CSS
interpretation for closing tags, saves up to 20%
parsing time on some sites.
- Cache improved to avoid storing of contents
resulting from POST actions.
- Implementation added to handle 100-continue
server replies, often used for POST method.

- Improved handling of forms without a defined

- Large rework of most of the internal structures
to reach better compatibility to the 'Document
Object Model' (mainly needed for CSS support).
- Fixed a bug in the CSS parser which caused

CSS 1.0 as well as for 2.0 specification.

Changes in V. 0.1.6 release of December 27, 2003:
- The cache got a big rework and cached files will
used now over subsequent sessions, not anymore
forgetting everything after program end.
- New config keywords added for controlling remote
connection timeouts: TIMEOUT_CONNECT,
RETRY_HEADER and TIMEOUT_HEADER.
(see example.cfg\highwire.cfg for details).
- Implementation of parsing of <STYLE> areas.
- Tag <SPAN> implemented (general CSS inline
element) (#0138).

- Enabled loading and displaying of image files
over remote connections.
NOTE: This will only work when the CACHEDIR is

memory shall be used for caching of image
bitmaps in memory (not those on disk):
CACHEMEM = <kilo bytes>
When not defined 100k will be assumed.

Changes in V. 0.1.4 release of August 10, 2003:
- Implemented disk caching of text/html files from
remote (only per session yet). To enable this
feature the highwire.cfg file needs to include
the line
CACHEDIR = <path>
where <path> must be a valid and writeable
directory.
- Added a new config keyword to define the default
background colour for pages that doesn't define
any:
DFLT_BACKGND = <colour>
(see example.cfg\highwire.cfg for details).
- The toolbar got a stop button now to allow page
loading to be stopped. The same function is
implemented for the escape key now as well.
Additional there is also a new button for open
file now.
- Some adaptions for monochrome screen mode done.
- Improved history functionality to not messed up
due to frames that are loaded from a different
server than the frameset. Furthermore slider
positions of frames are stored also now.
- Implemented ID keyword as anchor for <P> and
<Hx> tags, blanks in anchor names are filtered

- Implemented <base href=...> tag (base URL for
relative links in a document).
- Sound files from remote sites are now loaded

Changes in V. 0.1.3 release of June 05, 2003:
- Implemented handling of shift + left/right
cursor keys (page-wise horizontal scrolling).
- Double clicks on arrows of sliders are handled
now in the same way as N.AES does (for left and
right mouse button).
- New menu entry (under 'Options') to have frames
always resizeable and scrollbars if necessary,
even if the HTML defines anything else there.
The default is off but can be set to on with the
keyword FORCE_FRAMECTRL = 1 in the config file.
- New keyword FONT_MINSIZE to define a minimum
font height in points, eg. for <font size=1>

renderer while calculating text word widths
(only rarely seen on some very simple pages).

black.
- Removed several code redundancies.

Changes in V. 0.1.2 release of May 12, 2003:
- The new implemented navigation bar allows easy
entering of URLs as well as going for/backward
in view history (can be hidden/shown by holding
down the ALT key while clicking the window's
closer button).
- Changed the behaviour of the window's info bar
to have it more logical and informative.
- New control keyword for the configuration file
to change the appearance of the info bar, can be
displayed now at the window's bottom

- Overworked recognization of link areas, still
not perfect yet but much better now.
- HTTP protocol layer reworked, is faster now and
works for much more servers now.

- Fixed several remaining bugs related to <li>
tags.
- Implemented <nobr> and <wbr> tags, also
<td nowrap> is working now.
- Table cells with percentage width are working
now.
- Images that has not more than 1 pixel width
and/or height don't get a place holder anyore.
That makes pages looking nicer if some spacer
gifs couldn't be loaded.
- Fixed some oddities related to transparent GIFs.
- Reworked code to avoid flickering mouse pionter
when moved over window's title or info bar or
being exactly over a frame's border.

Changes in V.09 alpha of October 30, 2002:
- Multiple Windows are now supported for the frame
target "_blank". Also ALT+ mouse click on a
link opens it in a new window.
- Displaying of non-Speedo fonts is working now so
far. The result isn't that pretty yet but at
least useable.

- Realtime scrolling for slider usage.
- Highlighting of links improved. If the mouse

Changes in V.07 alpha of July 24, 2002:
- Reworked configuration code, new keyword
FONT_SIZE in the cfg file sets the base font
size in point (default is 12pt). If the
environment variable HOME is set the cfg file
will first be searched at the places
$HOME/defaults/highwire.cfg ->
$HOME/highwire.cfg -> $HOME/.highwire .
- Improved handling of text wrapping around images
and tables, also <br clear> flag is handled now.
- Implemented HSPACE image attributes.

Changes in V.06 alpha of July 07, 2002:
- Bugfix in the GIF image reading function. Due
to a miscalculated value for vertical scaling
this function could cause crashes by corrupting
memory.
- First implementation of text wrapping around
images that have ALIGN="LEFT" set.
- Implementation of the VSPACE attribute for
images.
- Links to target frame "_top" are working
correctly now.
- Fixed drawing of table background and cell
borders.
- Fixed redraw bug if the window was covered by
other windows.
- Scrolling works now also if the window is not
the top window (without topping it).
- If a file type can't be determined by the file's
extension a simple check is done to see if the
